We Need You

April 2008

The 7s are this Sunday 20th April and many of you have enquired on how you can help.  We are looking for members who are willing to help with the set up & stewarding.  The set start first thing Friday continuing on Saturday & Stewards briefing will be at 11.30 on Sunday morning in the Club House.  For the more creative members we need to 'dress' the tables and this will happen on Saturday so again any contribution welcomed.

Could you please e-mail Iain Paxton (iain.paxton@yahoo.co.uk) & confirm your availability.

SRU Volunteer Questionnaire

April 2008

Scottish Rugby is trying to gain an improved picture of volunteering in rugby in Scotland.

To assist with this they have produced a Volunteer Questionnaire and would like as many volunteers as possible to complete the questionnaire. To download it, click here. Instructions for return are on the form.

Sponsorship & Hospitality Opportunities

March 2008

Things are hotting up as we approach the big day, SUNDAY 20 APRIL, when we host The Capital Sevens.  Those members who were involved last year as helpers, participants or spectators will, I am sure, be looking forward to another fabulous day at Meggetland.

There are still a few tables left in the hospitality suite so if you would like to treat your business clients or friends to a great day out contact Danny on danny@rutterford.org.uk or call on 07917 532 887

Or you may know someone who would like to do so – pass the message on.

Perhaps you would like to contribute some sponsorship.  As with last year there is the opportunity to sponsor a match ball.  Contact Lesley Graham or sign up on the list on the notice board

Conscious of our social responsibility and our place in the community, this year, our partner charity, The Princess Royal Trust for Carers will also benefit from any donations made.

Thanks for your support.

Sevens Heaven

March 2008

Boroughmuir's sevens tournament is back.

Last April saw the launch of our own tournament, a day which provided a feast of fantastic rugby from the youths and the seniors.  The “come and try” sessions on the synthetic pitch were a huge success and everyone was agreed that this was a great addition the Edinburgh rugby calendar.  So guess what?  We’re doing it all again, and this time it’s bigger and better.  We’ve even given it a new name – The Capital Sevens.

On Sunday April 20th Boroughmuir and fourteen of the districts top clubs will seek to wrestle the champions crown from Edinburgh Rugby’s professional players.  We are confident that the sparkling performances on the pitch will reflect the prestige of our sponsors for the senior tournament – Laings the Jewellers

Eric Young and Co has generously agreed to sponsor the youth tournament and the youngsters get us off to a flying start at 9.30am with a 10 a side contest.  If last years final is anything to go by the quality of rugby will be outstanding.

This year, in partnership with Activcity, a council initiative, we will host the Mega Party on the synthetic pitch.  This year’s attractions are so numerous that we will extend on to the grass football pitch with sports sessions for kids, and fun events for all the family.  Bungee runs, sumo suits, golf swing simulator and climbing wall will make this a must for all those “big kids” amongst you.

In another innovation the club is running its tournament in partnership with The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. The club and the charity will both benefit from a successful day. So what can you do to contribute to that success?  It’s easy.  Come along on the day.  Tell all your friends and family to come along.  Maybe volunteer to help in any way you can.  We are organising teams of helpers and we’d love to hear from you.

The last few tables for the slap up lunch are still available so why not book a table for your business. Or if you and your friends would simply like to make a day of it why, not get a group together.

To volunteer contact Charlie Martin on:  katiemartin@lumison.co.uk

To book a table contact Danny Rutterford on:   danny@rutterford.org.uk

Edinburgh Rugby

11 December  2007

Members may see articles in the press over the next few days regarding the possibility of Edinburgh Rugby playing at Meggetland. The subject was mentioned by Gordon McKie at a recent SRU update meeting at Myreside.

The correct situation is that Edinburgh Rugby are keen to move from Murrayfield. The SRU and Edinburgh Rugby are in discussion with City of Edinburgh Council about various stadia, Meggetland being one of them. All of the stadia being considered have drawbacks, the main issue at Meggetland being the ground capacity along with some logistical issues concerning the use of the ground.

The Board of BRFC has been represented at several meetings with the Council and we have also met twice with Nic Cartwright, CEO of Edinburgh Rugby and so we are very much in the loop as far as developments are concerned. The Council will consult with us when they have answers to some of the sticking points regarding the possibility of Edinburgh playing at Meggetland. No decision has been made contrary to what you may read in the press.

Members will be kept informed of the situation as it develops.

Sponsorship Committee

27 June 2007

Sponsorship in its various forms is a vital part of income for the rugby club and along with money from our commercial activities and the all important member subscription helps to finance the rugby programme at senior and youth levels.

I have inherited a situation where we go into the new season without a principal sponsor on the 1st XV playing jersey and consequently, are relying on a range of sponsor sales to ensure that our playing budget is covered.

I am looking to establish a special committee to work on sponsorship initiatives and seek volunteers who would like to give as much of their time and expertise as possible to help secure sponsors throughout this season and to focus especially on attracting a principal sponsor for next season.

If you would like to be involved in helping Boroughmuir stay at the top of Scottish rugby give me a call or see me in the clubhouse. All offers of help will be greatly appreciated.
