At the inspiration of 1st XV Manager Grant Wilson we are
interviewing past Boroughmuir stars to get an update on their lives.
This time it's Henry Edwards.
Henry Edwards -
No.8 - BRFC
When did you come to Boroughmuir RFC, from where and why?
1985 From the “BIG APPLE”-ALLOA
Which
players from your time at the club stick in your mind and
why?
Too many to mention-but Gerry Dryburgh – for the amount
of drink he could consume and for the night him and Shona fell on the
bands drum kit at a function in the old clubhouse.
The Pyhthon Derek McLaughlin – my second row partner v
Millhill when playing for the Reprobates.
Mike DeBusk for allowing me to throw one of his only
shoes out the roof of the bus on the way back from Midllesborough-don’t
think Dorothy has forgiven me yet!
Bruce Hay for many “bump and stay big” reasons, but
mainly for him insisting we don’t pick Sean Lineen –he was not sure if
Sean was good enough on his arrival from NZ - he came good in the end.
Colin Galbraith for his banter, friendship and his
inability to fight with Glen “the trombone player” Millar from the
Nails.
Bryan Richardson, Kenny Wilson and I teaching Christian
Radacanau how to swear and drink Guinness.
What is your fondest memory of your time at Boroughmuir?
Again very difficult question to answer - all the
friendships made during my time at the club - but If I had to select one
it would have to be all the genuine support I received from the club
members after “the lift” in the Majestic Hotel, Cromwell Road ,London.
Do you still follow the club, and if so, how?
I do ,but don’t get to the club as often as I would like.
What
are you doing now, rugby – wise?
Still a member at Alloa RFC, watching my son Stuart-a
stand off play, Head of Player Development for Scottish Rugby.
What are your thoughts on the state of the game in
Scotland?
A very good question - I believe that there is a lot to
look forward to - there are a lot of good players in the country-we all
need to work hard and together to do our best for the players to allow
them to play at whatever they choose. That was pretty serious after the
earlier responses!!
Select your best Boroughmuir XV from the period you
played at the club.
Potential to upset some old team mates here!
15. Stevie Douglas - who else?!
14. Colin McCartney - for his goal kicking to beat
Pontypool!
13. Sean Lineen - Bruce was right!!

11. Mike DeBusk - just too make up for the shoe-sorry
Dorothy
10. Grant “Tommy” Russell
9. Mike “Tristan” Hall

from the tennis club?
2. Dougie “the mouth” Wylie

4. Jon Price
5. Colin Galbraith
6. Kenny “its up wi the bonnet of Kenny’s Capri” Wilson

The replacements:
16. Barry Brown
17. Peter Wright - for looking older then me when he was
17 and I was 27
18. Gerry Dryburgh - for his commitment to the jersey and
willingness to play anywhere for the club
19. Graham Drummond - for learning so fast
20. John “Jock” Kerr - just to cheer him up
21. Callum “Jug Lugs” McGregor
22. Billy Darling - for nearly killing the sevens squad
at Alloa Sevens!!!
My apologies to
the many others who could have been in this team - what strength in
depth we have. |
